What are we inspecting?

  1. Lights and Indicators:

    • Inspect the operation, security, and condition of lights and indicators.

    • Test sidelights, main/dipped beam headlights, fog lights, auxiliary lamps, and number plate lamps.

    • Verify the functionality of indicators, wing repeaters, and hazard lights.

    • Examine switches for proper operation and the secure mounting of light and indicator units.

  2. Windscreen Wipers:

    • Check windscreen washers, wiper motors, and wiper blades.

    • Examine the security and condition of front and rear wiper blades.

    • Test wiper speeds and ensure clear washer jets.

  3. Horn:

    • Operate the horn and assess its tone, volume, and switch operation.

  4. In-Car Entertainment:

    • Test the radio, cassette, and CD players if present.

    • Verify the functionality of all speakers for adequate sound reproduction.

  5. Seat Belts:

    • Check seat belts for condition and security.

    • Inspect webbing for damage and assess buckles and catches.

    • Observe seat belt recoil action.

  6. Dashboard Warning Lights:

    • Turn on the ignition to check instrument panel warning lamp illumination.

    • Ensure all appropriate lamps extinguish correctly.

  7. Windows and Mirrors:

    • Test electric windows and switches.

    • Check for abnormal noises and window drop glass operation.

    • Operate external door mirrors and adjust switches.

  8. Heating/Air Conditioning and Ventilation:

    • Test heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems.

    • Operate vents, switches, and controls.

    • Listen for abnormal noises in the system.

  9. Seat Adjusters:

    • Operate manual and electrical seat controls for correct function.

  10. Seat Security/Mountings:

    • Examine seat structure for security and excess movement.

  11. General Equipment:

    • Check general equipment, such as the cigar lighter and sun visors, for proper operation.

  12. Engine Starting:

    • Start the engine and observe the cranking and firing process.

    • Listen for abnormal starter motor noises.

  13. Body Panel and Alignment:

    • Inspect exterior body panels for condition and correct alignment.

    • Ensure panels are free from major accident damage.

  14. Child Locks:

    • Activate child safety locks and test door operation from the inside.

  15. Locking Systems:

    • Test operation of all door handles, locks, and knobs.

    • Check exterior door lock barrels and remote central locking systems.

  16. Road Wheels:

    • Examine road wheels for visual damage, including kerb damage.

  17. Jack and Wheel Brace:

    • Confirm the presence and integrity of the vehicle jack, wheel brace, and locking wheel bolt release key.

  18. Windshield and Glass:

    • Inspect all vehicle glass for damage, including chips and excessive scratches.

  19. Wiring:

    • Check visible wiring for damage and security.

  20. Engine Oil:

    • Check engine oil level and examine oil condition.

  21. Coolant:

    • Verify coolant level and measure antifreeze strength.

  22. Windscreen Washer Fluid:

    • Confirm windscreen washer fluid level.

  23. Engine Compartment:

    • Examine the engine compartment for fluid and fuel leakage.

  24. Brake/Clutch Fluid:

    • Check brake and clutch fluid levels.

  25. Power Steering Fluid:

    • Verify power steering fluid level.

  26. Drive Belts:

    • Examine external engine drive belts for signs of damage.

  27. Engine Compartment Pipes and Hoses:

    • Visually inspect coolant, oil, and power steering hoses.

  28. Engine Mountings:

    • Observe engine mountings for cracks or deterioration.

  29. Battery:

    • Visually check battery and wiring connections.

  30. Vehicle Charging System:

    • Visually inspect the charging system.

  31. Under Body and Chassis:

    • Examine underbody and chassis for corrosion and structural repairs.

  32. Exhaust System:

    • Check exhaust system for security and gas leakage.

  33. Steering Rack/Box:

    • Visually inspect the steering rack or box for leaks and mountings.

  34. Steering Rods, Joints, and Gaiters:

    • Examine steering rods, joints, and gaiters for play or leaks.

  35. Braking System:

    • Check brake pads, brake pipes, and flexible hoses.

  36. Front Suspension:

    • Inspect front suspension components for security, gaiters, and play.

  37. Rear Suspension:

    • Examine rear suspension components for damage, gaiters, and play.

  38. Gearbox:

    • Check gearbox for leaks, linkages, and mounting condition.

  39. Final Drive:

    • Inspect the final drive for leaks, security, and condition.

  40. Prop Shaft:

    • Examine the prop shaft for security and play.

  41. Under Body Fluid/Fuel Leaks:

    • Check the underside of the vehicle for oil/fuel leaks.

  42. Under Body Pipes/Hoses:

    • Inspect pipes and hoses for damage.

  43. Structural Repairs:

    • Verify previous structural body repairs for quality.

  44. Tires:

    • Examine tires for wear and tread depth.

  45. Road Test:

    • Conduct a road test to evaluate handling and performance.

  46. Footbrake:

    • Test footbrake action and pedal travel.

  47. Handbrake:

    • Operate the handbrake and check travel and lever security.

  48. Clutch and Accelerator:

    • Assess clutch and accelerator pedal operation.

  49. Clutch Operation:

    • Perform a stall test and observe clutch operation.

  50. Transmission:

    • Check gear engagement and excess free play in the gear linkage.

  51. Engine Performance:

    • Evaluate engine acceleration and power.

  52. Engine Noise:

    • Check for abnormal engine noise.

  53. Smoke Emissions:

    • Examine exhaust for excessive smoke.

  54. Instruments and Controls:

    • Test all controls for proper functionality.

  55. Overheating:

    • Monitor coolant temperature gauge for overheating.

  56. Steering Wheel Alignment:

    • Ensure steering wheel centralizes.

  57. Handling Stability:

    • Assess vehicle handling for abnormal characteristics.

  58. Footbrake and Handbrake:

    • Confirm satisfactory footbrake and handbrake performance.

  59. Hot Restarting:

    • Verify correct engine restart.

  60. Bonnet Leaks:

    • Check for oil and fluid leaks under the bonnet after road tests.
